New Moon in Cancer

Ancestral Warmth & Protection

The New Moon in Cancer takes place on Friday, June 5 at 3:57 pm PT with Venus only 6 degrees away from the Sun & Moon's conjunction. When these 3 planets are connected in the sign of Cancer, they can infuse our lives with warmth, sensitivity, gracefulness, and nostalgia.

This is the time to allow Cancer's yin energy to help you notice the subtleties moving through your emotional body, and their connection to your thoughts, stories, and how you identify with them. This is not the time to analyze what is moving through you, instead, get intimate with the sensations visiting you, listen to nature, and let the emotions guide you to the dancefloor that lives in your heart... there is medicine here for you.

The Cancerian yin energy asks us to dive into the bottom of our astrological charts, our 4th house, where we house our roots, family bonds, and ancestral protection.

Cancer energy can speak to the deep ties that live through our matriarchial lines, our grandmothers, great-grandmothers, and their mothers. As my dear friend Jordana Grader Ma reminded me of in her Eco-Psychology program, when working with our ancestors we can recognize and connect to the healthy parts of them that live in us.

When we reach Cancer Season, after having traveled through Aries, Taurus, and Gemini, we are confronted with the idea that our soul journey goes beyond our individual self-expression. It is through Cancer energy that we recognize the importance of societal pressures and familial imprints in our way of being.

There are no shortcuts when it comes to Cancer. Cancer has the patience to enjoy the small moments of the long road ahead, and the stamina of a cardinal sign to traverse territory that can be easily buried. Cancer has the power of the protector, the defender, she is one Fierce Mother that grows within

This is a potent New Moon for you to honor the archetypal Blessed Mother who is guiding us all. In her book Untie the Strong Woman: Blessed Mother's Immaculate Love for the Wild Soul, Jungian Analyst Clarissa Pinkola Estes describes many ways people have referred to this loving universal force:

  • Mother Sweet Copal scent

  • Medicine Grandmother

  • Mother of the Glowing Ember

  • Mother Who Wears the Rain

  • Queen of the Soft Wind

  • She Leaning from the Sky

  • Mother Who Turns the Drum of the Universe

  • Spiritual Vessel

  • Mystical Rose

  • Spangle Bowl of the Universe

  • Seat of Wisdom

How do you connect with this protective energy?
In what ways has she already communicated with you?
Where have you felt her loving presence?

On this New Moon, call her in. She is here to guide us toward deep self-compassion and a more heart-centered path.
